Nvidia and MGX Lead Europe’s Largest AI Data Center Campus Near Paris

Nvidia and MGX Abu Dhabi’s investment vehicle announced a partnership with French companies to create Europe’s largest artificial intelligence (AI) data center campus. This project advances the strategic ambitions of both France and the UAE in the AI sector.

Large-Scale Campus with Impressive Power Capacity

The consortium plans to develop a campus near Paris with a projected capacity of 1.4 gigawatts. The announcement was made Monday at the Choose France summit in Versailles, in a joint statement alongside the French state-backed investment firm Bpifrance SACA and national AI leader Mistral AI.

Multibillion-Euro Investment and High-Level Partnerships

This initiative stems from broader agreements signed in February during a visit by UAE leader Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and French President Emmanuel Macron. The UAE committed to investing up to €50 billion in French data center infrastructure, Bloomberg reported.

Shared Goals: Economic Diversification and Technological Sovereignty

The project reflects the UAE’s ambition to diversify its economy and increase geopolitical influence, while France aims to establish AI sovereignty within Europe. Macron had already pledged €109 billion in technology infrastructure investments to compete with the US and China.

Participation of Major Companies and Academic Institutions

The project includes Nvidia, MGX, industrial giant Bouygues SA, and energy provider EDF Group, strengthening its diverse collaboration network. The prestigious École Polytechnique joins, enhancing academic and technological expertise. École Polytechnique partners with Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in Abu Dhabi. This international alliance promotes innovation and knowledge exchange across AI research and industry sectors.

Timeline and Investment Scale

The data center campus will require a total investment of €8.5 billion. The first phase is expected to become operational by 2028, according to a statement from the French presidential office.

MGX and Its Global AI Project Connections

MGX previously invested in OpenAI and xAI and now supports the ambitious $100 billion Stargate AI initiative led by Donald Trump. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a top global dealmaker, oversees the project and chairs the Emirati tech giant G42. G42 builds a 5-gigawatt data center in the UAE, partnering directly with OpenAI. This collaboration strengthens AI development and technological infrastructure in the region significantly.
